Welcome to Restonian, a blog about all things Reston (tm). Warts and all.
But what, you may ask, is Reston (tm)? For the definitive answer, let us point you to the introduction to the seminal work, Reston: The First 20 Years.
For a long time, Reston was an idea, a plan, a dream. It would be a place, said the planners and dreamers, where people would be able to work where they lived. The countryside would co-exist with the city, with ducks and geese parading past the stores and townhouses lining the manmade lakes, and trails leading from apartments to glades of trees. Reston would not only be a new town, but a new way of living.
Shorter version, set to music:
Well, I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And adhere to cluster regulations
on the placement of recycling bins in or near carport areas.
Forgive us if we get a bit emotional.
If this was Facebook, I'd click "like" right about now....
ReplyDeleteOh Reston how I miss your warmth, beauty, and money. How I miss your bland brown Landscape and overpriced plastic apartments. I will be returning to you soon my love as Ireland can not compete with such Fake Plastic trees.

A therapist once told me I did not belong in Reston!! True I didn't, so I left. Then for some insane reason I came back again. Just to give it another shot. I had a good job, my daughter was born in the West Wing @ Reston Hospital. Once again those words from my therapist came to mind, so I left again. I returned to my native country of Ireland. A country of history, poets, beautiful scenery and a MAJOR recession. Guess what happens next????

Can anyone explain how Craker Lane got it's name?
ReplyDeleteA little Googling shows that Craker Lane is in Reston, Scotland. That's a bit of a drive.
