A charge was filed in the October shooting death of Reston resident Karen Deck in the Winterthur Apartments complex:

No charges have been placed at this time for the victim’s death; however, Ronald Robertson, 45, of 11900 Winterthur Lane #PH3 in Reston, was charged on Wednesday, October 28 with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Homicide detectives are still investigating.

  1. There is another homicide that occured recently (I believe this week) in Reston by the bike paths near the soapstone 7-11 shopping center. Apparently some mutual friends of mine were walking back from the 7-11 down one of these paths when they hear in the woods what sounded like someone being beaten (grunting, thudding, a bottle smashing). The following day, they returned to 7-11, where an officer followed them back home and asked them questions about the events of the previous night. The officer said they were on the store's camera around the time of the crime and hoped they could prvoide information about the incident. The victim elegedy died in the hospital sometime after the beating.

I can't find any official news on the incident yet, but I thought you might appreciate to know about this. I am personally bothered by the fact that these "witnesses" didn't contact the police upon hearing what they thought to be someone being beaten in the woods in the middle of the night...

  2. From the Fairfax County Police activity report of December 11, perhaps this is the incident you're talking about?

    Stoneview Square 11600

A 37-year-old man was robbed on Wednesday, December 9 around 11:13 p.m. The victim was
walking on a path in the 11600 block of Stoneview Square when two males approached from
behind, punched him and knocked him to the ground. When the victim fell, the suspects kicked
him and demanded money. The victim handed over an undisclosed amount of cash and the
suspects fled. The victim was transported to Inova Fairfax Hospital and treated for non lifethreatening injuries.
