- The Taste of Reston is today and Saturday at the
fake downtownestablished array of midscale retail and dining options. Along with the usual carnival (which continues through Sunday) and food on a stick options, there's something called "Guns and Hoses," which apparently involves a cook-off between police and firefighters. - The Tour De Cure comes to the fake downtown on Sunday. While it's undeniably for a worthy cause, we're mainly happy for the excuse to link to this video.
- If you don't like food or bicycles or the outdoors, you could always go to the Reston Association Board's extra special meeting at 9am on Saturday, to "discuss their plans regarding the Reston Master Plan Task Force." Among those plans is "establishing a subcommittee," so we can all rest well tonight, and all weekend long until the sound of ukeleles crushes our spirits, the end.

Come to Think of It, Maybe We Shouldn't Save the Date
Once again, we're forced to contend with the waking nightmare of unspeakable aural horror from Lake Anne Plaza! But since we don't have to move, buy industrial strength earplugs, etc., until July 10, there's a bevy of things to do this weekend.

And on Thursday evening the county planning commission will hold a hearing concerning a site plan for two 15-story residential buildings (with 457 residential units and 830 parking spaces) to be erected on the existing surface lot for the Oracle Campus, adjoining the Plaza America office towers.

Why haven't I heard about this from the NIMBYs on this blog? Convict, where are you?
If you get tired of listening to ukulele riffs, there's always the Reston Festival July 10-11 over at the "established array of midscale retail and dining options" (and don't forget the Bike shop).
ReplyDeleteI once saw an electric ukele player (warm-up act at Wolf Trap)and to my great surprise the performance was one of the most amazing things I have ever seen on stage: just fantastic. One can hope there are other ukele players out there of this caliber, and they will be at Lake Anne plaza in July...
ReplyDeleteActually the talent on tap for that Saturday includes Victoria Vox & Grammy winning artist, Marcy Marxer & Cathy Fink--you probably could do a lot worse and you'll probably have fun.
ReplyDeleteWhen I first saw the "Guns and Hoses" event, I was pretty sure a gay porn theatre had opened up next to the Panera.
ReplyDeleteBut considering that there are so few women under 50 in fake downtown bars, perhaps RTC should market itself as a gay destination.

ReplyDeleteYou're joking. I'd rather listen to Zamfir the Pan Flutist play hits of the 80s. So unless these two ladies are going to play "Rock You Like a Hurricane" with a wind instrument, I'm sure there's better entertainment in the real downtown 20 miles away.
Oh David... don't hate... it's boring.
