Decision 2011: Wait, There Was an Election Yesterday?

Hugins landslide.jpg

Apparently so, though turnout apparently ranged between 6 and 40 percent. To be fair, the school board races were more competitive, and maybe even about some of those "issues" we keep hearing about. While incumbents largely reigned supreme on the county Board of Supervisors, it'll be "fun" to see what a more conservative state legislature looks like. "Fun," assuming you consider laws to "require doctors to offer anesthesia to a fetus before an abortion; allow guns in parks, colleges and libraries; mandate drug screening for welfare recipients; and permit employers to fire workers for not speaking English" to be "fun."

  1. It would be nice now that the election is over, for everyone to take down their signs that have been littering our roads for quite some time now.

The ones by Mac Cannon and patrick Forrest are particulalrly egregious on the North side of town.

  2. To his credit, I'm pretty sure I saw Spike taking down his own signs on Baron Cameron earlier today. A quasi-celeb sighting!

  3. Re the Connection item, if Supervisor For Life Cathy ran unopposed but got only 99 percent of the vote, who got the other one percent?

  4. Why doesn't someone run against Hudgins? She is no great shakes as a supervisor.

  5. Diva,

It's been tried, but she is backed by the deep pockets of the developers' money machine. If you are not for paving over everything in sight, you are not going far in Fairfax County. The election is over, and the bulldozers are warming up right now,

  6. Cool. In this case, I am the 1%.

  7. One write-in vote in 209 Reston #2 for Mickey Mouse for Hunter Mill District Supervisor was not reflected in the voting results.

  8. I am the 1% too.

If I voted for "None" was a write-in, why was this not counted?

    Election fraud?

  9. Damn proud to see that my precinct 221, Hunters Woods, had the highest number of write-in votes against Supervisor for Life Cathy, a total of 38, giving her only 95 percent of the vote.

We the Fifth Column are the 5 percent.

  10. They're apparently not counting "no-votes" at all, instead of as write-ins, because I cast such a non-vote in South Lakes. I was in too much of a hurry to come up with a good protest write-in against Duchess Hudgins.

Do Restonians really think centuries of single-party rule have resulted in a GOOD status quo here?

  11. I wrote in Rod Koozman myself. Does that make me a 1%-er?

And I voted for Forrest, not because I approve of his policies but because I received a postcard from the Upright Citizens denouncing him as a homosexual. Fer cryeye, Howell was a slam-dunk. Why did she have to sink to such a scurrilous tactic?

  12. Scubadiver-Howell didn't send that card. It was the Forrest campaign that did it, or their agents, and you fell for it and reacted exactly how they wanted you to. The address on the card is a parking lot in Lynchburg, and the group doesn't exist. Another thing, who exactly are the Democrats for Forrest? Nothing online about them at all, other than a tweet from the Forrest campaign. More BS from the Forrest campaign IMO.

I also wrote in Rod Koozmin for Hunter Mill supervisor. Too bad there wasn't a formal opponent to Ms. Hudgins, because I think that democracy is best served by having a competition, not a coronation.
