Oh, Here Is That Building Going Up in Reston Town Center
Please to be enjoying this lovely rendering of the Avant at Reston Town Center, the 359-unit apartment/retail complex that's now going up in the last undeveloped lot in Reston Town Center, complete with "rooftop dog area." Not bad, eh?
"Emerging Late 2013," the fancy website says, as if it's rising from a pristine, fog-shrouded lake in some sort of Arthurian myth, instead of being built with "footers" and whatnot. We are a bit concerned about that ominous translucent gray monolith looming in the left corner of the drawing, though. Will it suck the Avant into a parallel universe, perhaps into the middle of the "town center" of Reston's newest Bizarro World doppelganger?
The Avant website has a fancy "contact us" form to learn more about its studio, 1, 2, and 3-bedroom apartments. So you too can be like the Stock Image People featured below:
Judging by the lady's hat, hipsters will be welcomed with open arms, the end.

An apartment building so hip, it's named after an Audi.
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of a rooftop dog area, though. Great for re-enacting the Eiffel Tower scene from "European Vacation."
I thought it was named after the Studebaker, but in a different language.
Delete(For those of you too young to remember, the sleek Avante was Studebaker's last desperate attempt to remain solvent.)
If only the walls of the apartments were actually that lovely pumpkin orange from the photo above. Then they'd REALLY be capturing the spirit of Reston, ca. 1972.
ReplyDeleteIs the security there called the Avant Guard?
ReplyDeleteTwo thumbs UP!
DeleteHas the AKC approved the breed "rooftop dog"? If so, where can we get one? We definitely want to be on the cutting edge of Reston trendiness, what with our hipster hat and all.
ReplyDeleteWell, the Skye terrier might be an appropriate rooftop dog, come to think of it.
DeleteWhat is Avant today will be Gauche tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteGreat! Another grey and brown Lego Block building.
ReplyDeleteYabut, where are the fortifications?
ReplyDeleteIs it made from poured concrete? Do they have emergency suites?
Sorry Avant, the Citidel you aren't.
If the Avant is so hip, why does it look like almost every other condo/hotel/office building built in Clarendon in the last decade? Boring boxes...this is what passes for residential style in the brave new Reston? Oh where is the passion...?
