Flashback Monday: Land Before Tyvek
This v. v. exciting photo shows us Reston's Mediterranean Villa Cluster rising from the primordial ooze on the hills above Lake Anne. Now that we're accustomed to seeing prefab particleboard Ashburn-style dreck pop nearly fully formed from the ground wrapped in pearly-white Tyvek, this dark-hued siding seems exotic, almost scandalous:
(BTW, we tried to Google "Dierks Intermediate," and the closest we got to understanding what this miracle jet-age material was is this: "Mischung zur Herstellung eines Bindemittels und Verfahren zu ihrer Verwendung." Well, duh.)

Good old tar paper.
ReplyDelete"Mischung zur Herstellung eines Bindemittels und Verfahren zu ihrer Verwendung." is Chinese for "Just watch we're going to sell this diseased drywall to those dumb Americans."
ReplyDeleteAll that German sounds kinda dirty. Bindemittels, indeed.
ReplyDeleteWho's that person sitting on the pile of dirt in the left side of the photo? I wonder it's the future homeowner?
ReplyDeleteWas this an early part of the Bundeswehr's plan to invade Reston?
