It's been a while since we've visited our other Anti-Reston, our satanic, Christmas-hating doppelganger in Maryland. So what's been doing? Apparently a lot of hurt fee-fees because of a comment a 90s sitcom star made about Columbia:
In a profile of [Julia Louis-Dreyfus] in New York Magazine, the writer said Columbia, where much of Veep is shot, is 'home to one of the dreariest American landscapes imaginable -- office parks, chain malls and a cluster of Northeast-corridor warehouses for Sears and the like.'A prison with a shopping mall right in the middle of it, but otherwise, yes, technically correct.
To that, Dreyfus said 'thank god the work is good - can you imagine if it wasn't? It would be a prison.'
The sad part? Columbia rallied its forces in the best possible way imaginable to respond to Elaine Benes' diss: It created a twitter hashtag in which people defended their earth-toned community:
Just imagine what an #AwesomeReston hashtag would look like if, say, some former Partridge Family member decided to diss on our own earth-toned community. Only you don't have to, because we started (and most likely finished) the hashtag for you:
You're welcome.
Anyone who dances like Elaine doesn't belong in a planned community anyway...
ReplyDeleteJLD might not be that far from wrong. On just the other side of 95 from Columbia is Jessup, Md., home of the MD State Penitentiary and the Ho Co ADC.
ReplyDeleteDon't ask me how I know this....
